About us

A refined yet informal environment that plays host to a cuisine of international recognition, in a harmonious fusion with traditional Portuguese gastronomy.

The restaurant is housed in a former XVIIth century convent, situated between the traditional neighbourhood Madragoa and the elegant neighbourhood, Lapa. It has two spacious and comfortable rooms for dining that have been carefully restored and preserved. In good weather (which is almost all year round) the cloister is the most popular area and at cooler tables, a huge fireplace inside will guarantee you are comfortable.

Our Chef Viviane Durieu opened the restaurant in 1978 and António Moita joined her in 1994. Together, they made A Travessa into one of the best-known and most highly praised restaurants in Lisbon. Meet our staff here
